Introducing the Latest Addition to Gallagher's Livestock Scale Systems

Gallagher’s W110 Livestock Weighing System is an easy to use portable entry-level system with a 3,300 lb. weighing capacity. The galvanized steel chassis load bars fit most platform sizes and come pre-calibrated to the indicator.

“This system comes with a weigh scale indicator, mounting bracket and load bars,” says Scott Rooney, Gallagher’s Product Specialist. “The unit’s tough construction allows for all weather outdoor usage. In addition to operating on four AA batteries, the plug and play system enables easy portability and convenience, making it very attractive to youth stock show enthusiasts as well as FFA and 4H activities."

How much do your Cattle Weigh? | Gallagher Scales

Livestock owners often need to know the weight of their animals in order to determine proper feed rations, to adminster the proper dosage of a medication, or to track how individual animals grow and use their feed. Approved and properly calibrated livestock scales are the most accurate and consistent method for determining body weight. However, there are several methods that can be used to determine an animal’s weight when access to scales is not possible: visual observation or guessing, weigh tapes, and weight estimation formulas.

Visual observation is usually very inaccurate and not recommended for use when determining rations, medication dosages, or when an accurate weight is important.

Weigh tapes are specially marked tapes used to measure the heart girth and convert that measurement to a fairly accurate estimate of the animal’s body weight. Weigh tapes are easy to use and can be utilized effectively for monitoring purposes when used in a consistent manner by the same person. They can be purchased for cattle, sheep, goats, hogs and horses through various livestock supply companies.

With weight estimation formulas, a common tape measure is used to determine the heart girth and body length measurement. These measurements are then used to calculate the animal’s weight. The weight estimation formulas described below are usually more accurate than a weigh tape and almost always more accurate than visual observation in determining an animal’s weight.

Beef Cattle

  1. Measure the length of body, from the point-of-shoulder (A) to the point-of-rump or pin bone (B).

  2. Measure the circumference or heart girth (C). Measure from a point slightly behind the shoulder blade, down the fore-ribs and under the body behind the elbow all the way around. After these measurements are made in inches – use the following formula.

  3. (Heart girth X heart girth X body length) ÷ 300 = weight in pounds.

Solar Powered Energizers Gallagher Electric Fence Chargers

BUY HERE! Solar Powered Energizers

Solar panels convert light directly into electricity. The battery stores this electricity and operates the battery powered Energizer. This allows the Energizer to operate at night or during periods of low sunlight.

GALLAGHER ELECTRIC FENCE | POWER FENCE MANUAL

INTRODUCTION TO GALLAGHER ELECTRIC FENCE PRODUCTS

The earlier generations of Gallaghers were farmers. And it was a typical farmer’s approach to solving farm problems that helped us lead the world into the electric fencing age. From the 1930’s we developed, on our own family farm, animal control systems to make farm work easier. Today we are known in over 100 countries.

Gallagher Power FenceTM Systems are recognised for decreasing costs and increasing profits for farmers throughout the world. Our economical and practical fencing provides increased efficiency in controlled grazing through subdivision. Increased stocking rates and fodder conservation are the prime contributors to better farm profits and farmers have reaped the benefits of upgrading non electric fences, fencing out wild animals and protecting both stock and pasture.

An Electric fence manual is designed to help you achieve the best possible results from your Gallagher Power FenceTM System. It will help you design your fence system and give suggestions for the fence materials, hardware, accessories, tools and testers you will need. For maximum power with minimum maintenance it is important to follow the principles of fence construction and energizer earthing closely. If you’re not prepared to do it properly, be prepared to accept less than optimum performance.

Thank you for choosing Gallagher - I’m sure you’ll be satisfied with your decision for years to come.

ELECTRIC FENCE CHARGER / ENERGIZER VOLTAGE | HOW MANY?

The fence energizer must provide a high guard voltage on the charged wires to force the shock current to jump from the wire to the animal’s skin. the fur, hair, or wool of the animal insulates the wire from the animal’s skin. a guard voltage of 5000 volts will jump through about 1/8 inch (3mm) of hair. domestic cattle can usually be managed with a guard voltage of approximately 2000 volts (horses and pigs can be managed with slightly lower guard voltages).

ELECTRIC FENCE CHARGER PRODUCTS / ENERGIZER INSTALLATION

How Electric Fencing Works:

The object of electric fencing is to keep your livestock inside their grazing area by giving them an electric shock when they contact the charged fence wire. properly installed and grounded electric fence is an effective, economical way to fence livestock.

WARNING: Electric fence is a psychological barrier, not a physical barrier. It’s effectiveness depends on proper fence construction. Under certain circumstances livestock can escape the fenced area. do not rely on a portable electric fence as the only means of keeping livestock out of areas that may cause injury to themselves or people. Fence construction will vary depending on location of fence and type of livestock being confined. special attention to constructing fence should be given when fence is located near roadways, railroad tracks, rivers, ponds, etc., to insure animals cannot escape the fenced area, which may cause injury to themselves or people. constructing a temporary, portable fence is not recommended for these locations, a perma- nent physical barrier fence should be used in these locations.

Electric fence batteries found wired up to children's park railings

This should have been a Gallagher electric fence charger / energizer. Police are appealing for more information after the batteries were discovered at a park Somewhere.

The batteries, used to power electric fencing, were found attached to children's play park railings. An image shows stolen batteries which were used to turn the railings of a children’s park into an electric fence.

Greater Manchester Police are investigating after the equipment was discovered by a passer-by in the play area, on Moor Street, in Shaw, Oldham .

The batteries and electric fence energiser were attached to the railings and would have given anyone who touched the fence an electric shock.

It is believed the equipment was stolen from a local farm.

Some have suggested young people had attaching the battery to the park railings, close to Crompton Primary School, as a “prank”.

Others raised questions about whether children playing in the park could have been put at risk by the equipment, which is used to convert power from a battery into pulses and push them down a fence.

The batteries and electric fence energiser were attached to the railings of the play area on Moor Street, in Shaw.
The pulses have a high voltage and low amperage, which makes them safe but gives anyone who touches it an unpleasant experience. They are normally used in farming to ensure animals do not escape from enclosures.

GMP Royton and Shaw posted images of the equipment on Facebook and asked anybody with further information to get in touch.

Hundreds of Facebook users have blasted the culprit as ‘vile’ and ‘sick’.

Andy Gloss wrote: “I can’t see how the person doing this would seek enjoyment out of it. They’ve actually put thought and time into it.”

Joanne Crutchley posted: “Why would anyone want to hurt innocent children.”

Another Facebook user wrote: “It’s vile. And it’s the park right next to my house I will be paranoid going now.”
